Lucile Wuertele Gates

Lucy was born in Austin, Texas on May 18, 1928. She entered into the arms of her Lord on March 9, 2024 at the age of 95. She served her Lord throughout her life both in church and her daily life.

Lucy was preceded in death by her beloved parents, Gotlieb and Frances Wuertele. She was an only child which led to her becoming self-confident and independent. She was also preceded in death by her beloved husband, Walter C. Gates to whom she was married for over 60 years. Her two loving daughters, Linda Gates Shinn and son-in-law, Don Shinn, Laura Gates Graham and grandson, Steven C. Graham. She is survived by her grandson, Doug Shinn and his wife Mary as well as their children, Dillon and Faith and her husband Tyler. Her granddaughter, Lindsey Quinn and husband Heath and their daughters, Lucy’s great granddaughters, Levi Jo Quinn and Lawson Graves Quinn; as well as her son-in-law, Gordon C. Graham. She also leaves behind many nieces and nephews many dear and beloved friends.

Lucy served faithfully in the Lord’s house during her life as a member of several Southern Baptist Churches in Austin, Houston and Coldspring. She was a member of the First Baptist Church of Coldspring when she passed away.

Following a massive stroke Lucy spent the remainder of her life at MRC Creekside Nursing facility in Huntsville. She was a beloved member of this facility, and the family can’t thank their staff enough for the wonderful care that she received.

Visitation will be Friday, March 15, 2024 at the First Baptist Church in Coldspring from 1:00-2:30pm. Funeral Service will begin at 2:30pm with Chaplain Alan Poteet officiating. Burial will follow in the Laurel Hill Cemetery. Pallbearers for the service will be, Gordon Graham, Doug Shinn, Heath Quinn, Lindsey Quinn, and Alex Plavick.

Lucy often told her friends that she led a simple, humble life. May she be remembered lovingly in that manner.
