Loyce Cashat

Loyce Istre Cashat, a beloved wife, mother, grandmother, and friend, peacefully passed away on January 31, 2024, in Baytown, Texas, at the age of 97. She was born on November 7, 1926, in Jennings, Louisiana, to the late Raymond Istre and Alma Arceneaux Istre.

Loyce spent her formative years in Baytown, Texas, later residing in Tarkington Prairie for a substantial period before returning to the Baytown area for the last 20 years of her life. She was a devoted member of the Church of Christ Baytown for many years.

Embracing the joys of country living during her time in Tarkington, Loyce cultivated a magnificent garden, yielding bountiful crops of cucumbers, peas, and various vegetables. Her passion for gardening extended to the cultivation of beautiful roses. A skilled seamstress and an exceptional cook, Loyce's homemade rolls and Thanksgiving turkey with dressing were eagerly anticipated by her family.

Loyce was a warm and caring soul who cherished her interactions with people. Her home was a haven not only for family but also for the neighborhood dogs who sought comfort and companionship. Always welcoming, Loyce made her grandchildren's visits memorable by actively engaging in outdoor play.

A morning ritual included uplifting phone calls from Lee, setting the tone for her day. Loyce was dedicated to giving back, exemplified by her monthly contributions to St. Jude's Hospital. Her 60-year marriage to Leroy Joseph Cashat was filled with purpose, with Loyce providing a gentle guiding hand through various tasks.

Loyce's inquisitive nature led her to relish asking questions, fostering genuine connections with everyone she met. She is preceded in death by her parents, husband Leroy Joseph Cashat, son Gene Cashat, brothers Chester Istre and Morris Istre, and sister Beatrice Istre.

Loyce is survived by her sons Boyce Lee Cashat and wife Sharon Elizabeth, Richard John Cashat and wife Diane, and daughter-in-law Melanie Cashat. She leaves behind sisters Juanita Wooten and Eunice Slaughter, sister-in-law Dot Istre, numerous grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and great-great-grandchildren, as well as numerous nieces, nephews, and cherished friends.
