Loren T. "Smokey" Briskin

June 12, 1961 — September 25, 2021

Loren Tracy Briskin was born in Spearfish, South Dakota to Joseph Briskin and Arlys Muphy on June 12, 1961. The family later moved to Miami, Florida where Loren graduated from Miami Dale High School in 1979. He joined the Army and was deployed to Germany. He was honorably discharged in October of 1981.

He moved to Bay City, Texas in 1982 to work at the South Texas Nuclear Plant. He joined Local 716 Electrical Union in 1988 and graduated from the apprenticeship at the top of his class in 1992. He continued working as an Electrician when he took a job with Cameron in 1995. In 2007 he took the job as a Field Service Technician with Cameron. He worked for Cameron for 26 years and was a great mentor to the new employees. He was still employed with them as a Field General Service Specialist until his death. Working for Cameron allowed him to see different countries and cultures. He always enjoyed sharing these with his family and friends.

Loren was a loving husband, son, brother, father, and grandfather. Spending as much time with his family is what he most treasured. Loren enjoyed collecting guns and teaching his grandsons about gun safety. He spent a lot of time at the gun range with his son and grandsons. He loved riding his Harley Davidson every chance he got. He and his wife Vanell enjoyed the roads and backroads and always found a new road that they had never been on before. Both were very blessed to travel so much and check things off their bucket list.

Loren was preceded in death by his grandparents Ellin Brisken (Florence Beckerman) of New York and Lawrence Erickson (Agnes Heier) of South Dakota; his father Joseph Briskin; and his nephew, Danny Snow.

Loren is survived by his loving wife Vanell Street of Coldspring, Texas; his mother Arlys Murphy of Dallas, Texas; stepmother Rene Briskin Bryant; brother Lance Bonbrest (Debbie Bonbrest) of Ramona, California; sisters Evelyn Snow (Brad Snow) of Jacksonville, Florida, Rochelle Accadia (Michael Accadia) of Chicago, Illinois, Tristine Slayton (George Slayton) of Dallas, Texas; his son Dustin J. Briskin (Kristina Briskin) of West Columbia, Texas; grandsons, Kaleb Smith, Kash Briskin, and Tripp Briskin of West Columbia, Texas; plus numerous nieces and nephews who all loved him.
