Lonnie V. Walters, age 87 and a resident of Shepherd, Texas, passed away Thursday, August 01, 2013. He was born in Goodrich, Texas on April 19, 1926 to parents Virgil and Eva Wheeler Walters who preceded him in death along with his son Sheriff James Lewis Walters and his brothers Liston Walters and Virgil Walters. Survivors include his loving wife of 69 years Henrietta “Peggy†Walters; daughters Helen Kay Lyles of Dallas, Texas, Janice March and husband Joe of Pittsburg, Texas, Sonya Jenkins and husband John of Shepherd, Texas. He had sixteen grandchildren, fourteen great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild; brothers G. L. Walters and Douglas Walters; sister Neoma Giles Wright; numerous nieces, nephews and other cherished family members and faithful friends throughout the years. Bro. Walters preached the gospel of the Lord Jesus Christ for over half of his life. Because of his love of God, many many souls were saved. His family was the joy of his life. Visitation will be held Saturday, August 03, 2013, 6:00-8:00 p.m. at Pace-Stancil Funeral Home, Cleveland, Texas. Bro. Mark Smith, Bro. Larry Albritton and Bro. Melvin Holifield will preside over funeral services being held Sunday, August 04, 2013, 2:00 p.m. at Pace-Stancil Chapel with interment following at Peebles Cemetery, Goodrich, Texas. Pallbearers include Bill Ellis, Sidney Gardner, Royce Wells, Leon Murphey, Chuck Banks, and James Everett.
