Lois E. “Grannie Mae” Gardner Cornell, 85, of Dayton, died Saturday, March 27, 2010, at the San Jacinto Methodist Alexander Campus. Funeral services will be held at 10:00 a.m., Tuesday, March 30, 2010, at the Pace-Stancil Funeral Home Chapel with burial following at Guedry Cemetery in Batson. Visitation will be held from 5 p.m. to 9 p.m., Monday, at the funeral home. Services are under the direction of Pace-Stancil Funeral Home in Dayton. Lois was born November 23, 1924 in Hull, to parents; William D. and Annie Odom Gardner, a former resident of Daisetta and has resided in the Dayton area for the past 25 years. She was a homemaker, former private school bus driver, and member of the Community Christian Church. She enjoyed sewing, crocheting, cooking, playing games, and caring for others. Mrs. Cornell was preceded in death by her husband: Brooks F. Cornell, father: William D. Gardner, mother: Annie Odom Gardner, step-mother: Ruby Hayes Gardner Odom, and brother: William E. “Bubbie” Gardner. She is survived by her son: Waymon F. Cornell and wife Gail of Highlands, daughters: Linda “Lin” Pruitt and husband Roy of Dayton and Ruth Nugent of Cleveland, sisters: Barbara Ann Taylor and husband Kenneth of Moss Hill, Ethel J. Orand of Liberty, and Tressie E. Orand of Atascocita, seven grandchildren: Tonya Neuman and husband Kody, Waymon F. Cornell, Jr., William Cornell, Tammy Vauter and husband Johnny, Angel Olecki, Heather Rallis and husband Steve, Becky Vega and husband Abel, and Roy Nugent and fiancé Kristi Clapp, 16 great-grandchildren, and numerous nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
