Lillian June Payne

June 28, 1928 — November 2, 2015

Lillian June Gray, Joranstad, Payne, beloved child of God, mother, and friend, graduated to her heavenly home on Monday, November 2, 2015. Lillian was born on June 28, 1928 in San Juan, Texas. She is preceded in death by her parents, Ira Duane and Josefa Martin, and sister, Agnes Woodward. Everyone who knows Lillian will attest to her priorities in life-God, Family, Friends, and Fishing. She was never happier than when surrounded by her children, grandchildren, sisters and brother. Lillian loved playing games. Mention playing Whahoo or Scrabble and she was ready. She was very competitive. She would never “let” you win. You had to earn it. Her hobbies included fishing, reading, sewing, crafts, and quilting. Fishing came naturally, as her father was a shrimp net maker on the Gulf Coast, and her mother loved to fish as well. Now don’t hand her an open-faced reel; she would not use it. She figured any fish she caught could be caught on a closed-face reel. Lillian loved to catch and eat perch, flounder, and catfish, including the tails! But, her greatest love was serving the Lord. She loved to read and study her Bible, teach Women’s Aux. and Sunday School, and memorize and quote scriptures. Lillian found joy in visiting and having fun with her Christian sisters. Her faith was strong and she lived it daily. She has fought a good fight and finished her course on this Earth; now she is at home with her Lord and family who were awaiting her arrival. Survivors include her children, Jennifer Cooper and husband Royce, Linda Joranstad-Stinnett-Koch and husband Carl, Fred D. Gray and wife Jane, David Gray and wife Martha, Jacquline Kirkgard and husband Randy, and Joycelyn Miguez and husband Randy; brother, George Martin and wife Alice; sister, Jessie Burch; twenty-four grandchildren, fifty-seven great-grandchildren, twelve great great-grandchildren; one niece, three nephews, and many precious Sisters in Christ through Women's Missionary Auxiliary – South Line Baptist Church. Visitation will be held 6:00 p.m. - 8:00 p.m., Wednesday, November 4, 2015 at Pace Stancil Funeral Home. Services will be held 10:00 a.m., Thursday, November 5, 2015 at Pace Stancil Chapel.
