Leslie “Smitty” Clarence Smith, 67, of Dayton passed away Sunday, April 16, 2017.
Services for Smitty will be 10:00 a.m., Thursday, April 20, 2017 at Pace-Stancil Funeral Home Chapel. Interment will follow at Cooke Memorial Cemetery in Liberty. The family will receive friends on Wednesday evening 5:00 to 8:00 p.m. at Pace-Stancil Funeral Home.
Smitty was born May 2, 1949 in Anahuac, Texas to parents, Lester C. and Mildred Rainwater Smith. He had been a lifelong resident of this area, growing up in Liberty and attending Liberty High school where he was a member of the class of 1967. He attended Stephen F. Austin University. He lived in Mont Belvieu before moving to Dayton 31 years ago. Smitty had worked for US Steel, Porler Southwest and most recent he was at Texan Metal. He was a true family man and loved family gatherings, but most of all he loved his grandchildren and being with them. Smitty enjoyed going fishing and motorcycles.
Smitty was preceded in death by his parents, Lester C. and Mildred Smith. He is survived by his wife of 40 years, Rhea McBride Smith of Dayton; son, Murray Smith and Brandi Thompson of Kenefick; daughters, Kristen Smith Odom and husband Chad of Kenefick, Leigh Ann Smith of New Mexico; brother Gary Smith of Baytown; sister, Cynthia Hylton and husband Ray of Liberty; grandchildren, Kristopher Smith, Landon Smith, Grant Odom, Reed Odom, Garrett McWhorter, Rainee Wolfe, and Rae Lynn Wilder; also numerous nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
