In lieu of flowers the Wilson family asks that donations be made to the Dayton Police Department and the Dayton Volunteer Fire Department.
Leon Wilson, Sr. was born on May 24, 1957, in Houston and departed this life on October 31, 2024, peacefully in Dayton, surrounded by the loving arms of his family. He leaves lasting legacy in both his professional and personal endeavors.
Leon was, first and foremost, a family man. He began his working career as a welder before dedicating himself to law enforcement, where he made significant contributions in various capacities. Over the years, he served at the Liberty County Sheriff’s Office, the Liberty Police Department and as a Texas Department of Public Safety Trooper. Most recently, he was honored to serve as the Liberty County Precinct 4 Commissioner, where he was currently in his third term, devoting most his life to the service of the Liberty County community. Leon's law enforcement career culminated in his retirement as an investigator with the Harris County District Attorney's Office, reflecting his commitment to public service and justice. Leon was also a Mason but, his passion was being PawPaw to Carson and Chase.
In addition to his professional achievements, Leon was a man of many passions. He cherished the outdoors, finding joy in activities such as hunting and fishing. He was particularly fond of participating in BBQ cooking contests, gun collecting, and shooting sporting clays, where he often shared treasured moments with friends and family.
Leon is survived by his beloved wife of 14 years, Amanda Wilson; his son Leon Wilson, II and wife Amber; step-daughter Kristy Barker and husband James; and grandchildren Carson Wilson, Chase Wilson, Kodi Casey, and Austin Barker. He is also survived by his brother Robert Bolin, his father-in-law Jean Johnson, several nieces, nephews, and numerous friends who will miss him dearly.
Leon was preceded in death by his parents Homer Wilson and Joyce Perkins Wilson; his brother Steve Wilson; his sister Anita Brown; as well as his mother-in-law Irene Mjos and father-in-law Einar Mjos.
Leon Wilson, Sr. will be remembered not only for his unwavering dedication to his profession but also for the love and joy he brought to those around him. His legacy will undoubtedly live on in the hearts of all who had the privilege of knowing him.
