Kenneth Michael "Mike" Higgins, 78, of Crosby, Texas, passed away on February 2, 2024, in the comfort of his home. Born on July 14, 1945, in Pasadena, Texas, Mike was the beloved son of Kenneth Samuel Higgins and Alva Lois Wilcox Higgins. He spent his formative years in Pasadena, graduating from South Houston High School and later making Crosby his home for the last 30 years.
Mike dedicated much of his professional life as a supervisor for Nabisco and as a Business Agent for Millwright #2232. A man of strong faith, Mike was a proud member of The Little Country Church in Crosby, where he and his wife, Connie, who shared 27 years of love & devotion together, celebrated their joint baptism.
Passionate about the thrill of drag racing and enamored with hot rods and antique car shows, Mike and Connie traversed the United States in their '65 Pontiac GTO. His love for the outdoors extended to peaceful moments on the lake in his pontoon boat and daily golf cart rides to visit neighbors.
Mike cherished his family and friends, finding joy in spending time with loved ones. Sundays held a special place in his heart, as he eagerly anticipated visits from his son Scott and grandkids, who began the tradition of bringing him glazed donuts, a sweet indulgence enjoyed with his coffee, which the granddaughters continued even after the passing of Scott. Mike enjoyed giving Michelle a hard time about “hauling food away”, his special way of enjoying a laugh with his daughter.
With a taste for Blue Bell ice cream and a dry sense of humor, Mike found pleasure in simple pleasures and shared interests. His TV favorites included shows like Yellowstone, Criminal Minds, and Law and Order, along with the History Channel. A passionate fan of drag racing, he eagerly discussed the latest races and The Blacklist with his son Scott.
A man of diverse musical tastes, Mike found a reflection of his own life in "Life in the Fastlane" by the Eagles. "It's 5 o'clock Somewhere" by Alan Jackson and Jimmy Buffet became his daily mantra when opening a Miller Lite. He took immense pride in the men his grandsons have become, and the accomplishments of his granddaughters embracing the role of a proud Aggie PawPaw.
Mike was preceded in death by his parents, sons Scott Higgins and Jon Higgins, and his cherished fur baby, Prancer. He is survived by his loving wife, Connie; daughter, Michelle Craighead; brother from another mother, James Surratt, and wife Dorothy; grandchildren, Colby Higgins and wife Addie, Alyssa Higgins, Samantha Higgins, and Sam Giggey; great-grandchildren, Jayde and Evelyn; mother of his two children, Myra Higgins; fur baby, Buddy, and numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, in-laws, outlaws, and dear friends.
A visitation to celebrate Mike's life will be held on Friday, February 9, from 10:00-11:00 a.m., at The Little Country Church in Crosby (14035 FM 2100, Crosby, Texas). A service led by Pastor Jerry Hovater will follow at the TLCC, offering an opportunity for friends and family to come together, share memories, and bid farewell to a man whose presence brought joy and warmth to the lives of many. May he rest in peace.
