Joyce Somers Romig, a beloved wife, mother, and grandmother, passed away peacefully on July 24, 2024, at the age of 75. Born on December 28, 1948, in Refugio, Texas, Joyce was the cherished daughter of Vivian and Milton Somers. Throughout her life, she found joy in her roles as a devoted wife, nurturing mother, and adoring Nana, leaving a legacy of love and warmth that will be dearly missed.
Joyce spent her formative years in Refugio before moving to Huffman and eventually settling in Humble, Texas. In 1967, she married Tom Romig, the love of her life, and together they built a family filled with love and happiness. Their union was blessed with two children, Karen and Matthew, who were the center of Joyce’s world.
Joyce did many things in her life including volunteering with the children at church, teaching, furniture refinishing, retail, and ultimately retiring from Continental Airlines. However, her most cherished work was undoubtedly her role as a wife, mother, and grandmother. Joyce loved to travel with her best friend and husband Tom, and took advantage of the benefits of working at Continental through many trips and cruises with Tom, their best friends Margie and David Peterson, and even her children and grandchildren. She delighted in staying connected with family and friends through long, heartfelt conversations and took immense pride in her four grandchildren. She loved to read the Bible and other books, and loved reading stories to her grandchildren. Her time spent playing board games, baking cakes, and listening to their stories was a testament to her boundless love and dedication. She loved to laugh and lived up to her name, Joyce, which means cheerful and joyous.
Joyce was preceded in death by her beloved parents, Vivian and Milton Somers, and her nephew, Chuck. She is survived by her devoted husband of 57 years, Tom Romig; her daughter Karen Robinson and her husband Thomas; her son Matthew Romig and his wife Amanda; her brother Wayne Somers; her sister Gloria Cline and her husband Neil; and her cherished grandchildren Zachary Robinson, Luke Robinson, Naomi Romig, and Anslie Romig. Also mourning her loss are her niece Cathy Riley and her daughter Addie Riley, along with numerous cousins, extended family, and friends.
A visitation for Joyce will be held from 1:00-2:00 p.m. on Saturday, August 3, 2024, at Pace Stancil Funeral Home in Dayton, Texas, with a service to follow at 2:00 p.m. Pastor Eric Scott will lead the service. Pallbearers include Matthew Romig, Thomas Robinson, Zachary Robinson, Luke Robinson, Dave Peterson, and Todd Guidry.
While Joyce’s time on earth has ended, her family finds solace in the faith and assurance that she has embraced her new life in heaven as a believer in Jesus Christ. Her love and legacy will forever remain in the hearts of all who knew her.
