Josie Medina, a pillar of strength, kindness, and devotion, passed away peacefully on August 22, 2023, at the age of 93, surrounded by her loved ones in Baytown, Texas. Born on September 18, 1929, to her parents, Trinidad Maldonado and Guadalupe Perez, Josie's life journey was marked by unwavering dedication to her family, community, and faith.
Having spent 75 remarkable years in Dayton, Texas, Josie's life story was interwoven with the communities of Baytown, Texas, and DeRidder, Louisiana. Her journey of service began as a custodian in the Dayton Independent School District, where she touched the lives of countless children with her warmth and care. Her commitment to nurturing the young minds around her earned her the respect and gratitude of the entire community.
Josie's spiritual strength was evident through her enduring membership in the St. Joseph's Altar Guild and her faithful presence at St. Joseph's Catholic Church for seven decades. Her unshakable faith was a beacon of light for those who knew her, a testament to her unyielding devotion to her beliefs.
Beyond her professional and spiritual pursuits, Josie was known for her open heart and helping hands. Her love for baking and cooking translated into countless moments of joy for her family and friends. She shared her creativity through the art of crafting, designing t-shirts that brought smiles to the faces of many community members. Her generous spirit knew no bounds, and her acts of kindness left an indelible mark on all those who had the privilege of knowing her.
Mrs. Medina was preceded by loving relatives including her parents; sons, Mike Medina and Carlos Medina and brothers, Pete Maldonado, Raymond Maldonado and Johnny Maldonado, granddaughter-in-law, Jodene Medina.
Josie's legacy is carried forward by her devoted son, Pete Medina, and his wife, Rebecca Ann Love. She leaves behind cherished memories for her sisters, Margie Martinez and Polly Contreras, as well as her grandchildren: Michael Medina, Carly Hudson and husband, Thomas, Curtis Medina and his wife Mayra, Casey Medina, Pete Medina, Cody Medina; and her great-grandchildren: Ashton Medina, Alec Medina, Diego Medina, Harper Hudson, Andres Medina, Colton Medina, Layla Medina, Trace Medina, and Parker Medina. Her spirit lives on through numerous other family members and friends.
Visitation to celebrate Josie's life will take place on Thursday, August 31, from 5:00-8:00 p.m. at the Pace Stancil Funeral Home in Dayton, Texas, with a rosary ceremony at 6:00 p.m. A funeral service honoring her memory will be held on Friday, September 1, 2023, at 11:00 a.m. at St. Joseph's Catholic Church in Dayton, Texas, followed by her interment at Magnolia Park Cemetery. Serving as pallbearers are Michael Medina, Curtis Medina, Pete Medina, Ashton Medina, Alec Medina, and Diego Medina.
