Jon Chachere

Jonnie “Jon” Lea Belt Chachere, 90, of Dayton, passed away peacefully in her sleep on February 14, 2024.

Visitation for Mrs. Chachere will be held Friday, February 16 from 6 to 8 p.m., and services Saturday, February 17 at 10 a.m., both at Calvary Baptist Church under the direction of Pace-Stancil Funeral Home.

Affectionately known to all as “Beam Beam,” Jon was born on December 1, 1933, to parents Robert “Bob” Alexander Belt and Alma Charlton Belt in Chester, Texas.

On December 21, 1957, she married the love of her life, L.J. Chachere. Together they were blessed with 5 children, 13 grandchildren, and 6 great-grandchildren.

Jon graduated from Chester High School in 1951. She was the proud queen of the 1950 Tyler County Dogwood Festival.

In 1955, she earned her bachelor’s degree in Homemaking with a minor in Art from Sam Houston State Teachers College. After graduation, Jon embarked on a teaching career in homemaking in Ennis. After moving her teaching career to Hull Daisetta, she met an Ag Teacher from Dayton. She later left teaching to raise her family.

Jon was a founder of the Dayton Young Homemakers and a founding and faithful member of Calvary Baptist Church. She loved to care for her family, sew, make quilts, and do handwork.

As an unwavering Christian, she held an ardent love for the Lord and serving others. The most enduring lessons she imparted to her children and grandchildren centered around the teachings of Jesus. Her family will cherish her example of being a Christian wife, mom, grandmother, and Godly woman for the community.

Jon was preceded in death by her husband of 58 years, L.J. Chachere, her parents, brother Bob Belt, and her sisters Cleo Watts, Lillie Pearl Hopson, and Opal Scott.
