John Gustave Wuensche, age 98 of Cleveland, Texas, passed away Wednesday, March 16, 2016. He was born April 8, 1917 in Hufsmith, Texas to parents Adolf and Louise Wuensche who preceded him in death along with his wife of 67 years, Charlotte Wuensche whom he met while attending college at the University of Texas in Austin. They became engaged on their first date and were married on May 30, 1941.
Mr. Wuensche was a WWII veteran serving overseas in the Army Air Force. He retired from the U.S. Postal service, and was a minister of the gospel serving in Southern Baptist Churches. He and Charlotte moved to Cleveland in 1972. He was very active in the community. He was a member of the Cleveland Lions Club and wrote articles for the Cleveland Advocate.
Survivors include his daughter, Lounell Claybourn; son, Richard Wuensche; grandchildren, Greg Wuensche, Richard Lynn Wuensche, Keri Claybourn and Marianna Hughes; great-grandchild, Malia Botelho-Read; numerous other relatives and friends.
Services will be held at 10:00 a.m., Saturday, March 19, 2016 at First Baptist Church, Cleveland, Texas. Interment will follow at Pace Stancil Memorial Rest Gardens, Cleveland, Texas. Contributions may be made to the Youth Scholarship Fund at First Baptist Church 400 West Hanson Cleveland, Texas 77327.
