John Robert Long (Red), age 78 of Cleveland, Texas, passed away Thursday, February 2, 2017. He was born May 15, 1938 in Houston, Texas to parents William Sam Long and Mildred Louise Hartman Long Berry who preceded him in death along with his brothers, Carol Long and Sammie Long; sister, Mary Long Robinson; grandson, Chase Ray Cotton; and ex-wife, Betty Ewing Long.
Survivors include his brothers, Jack Long and wife Beverly of Cleveland, Delma Long and wife Marilyn of Conroe; sisters, Bessie Baines and husband Lee of Conroe, and Margaret Prevost of Warren; step-sisters, Bonnie Burke and husband Tracy of Tarkington, and Judy Coons of Plum Grove, sons, Johnny Earl Long and Bobby Ray Long of Tarkington Prairie; daughter, Betty Louise Long Cotton and husband Cory of Bryan; grandsons, Dakota Long of Arkansas and Jase Ray Cotton of Bryan; granddaughter, Cassandra Louise Cotton of Bryan; great-grandson, Collin Long, numerous nieces, nephews, other relatives and a host of friends.
Red lived in Tarkington since 1946 after moving from East Houston. He graduated from Tarkington High School in 1959. He was a rice farmer and dozer operator. He loved hunting, fishing, playing bingo, and gardening.
Visitation will be held from 1:00 p.m. - 2:00 p.m., Tuesday, February 7, 2017 at Pace Stancil Funeral Home, Cleveland, Texas. Graveside services will be held at 3:00 p.m., Tuesday, February 7, 2017, Ryan Cemetery, Cleveland, Texas.
