John "Buster" Ripkowski, a beloved husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather, passed away peacefully on January 5, 2025, in Liberty. He was born on October 21, 1929, in New Waverly, and spent his early years in Dayton, where he graduated from Dayton High School in 1949. During his high school years, he was known for his athleticism and passion for the sport, playing football for the Bronchos.
Buster dedicated many years of his life to his career as an inventory specialist at Chevron, earning respect and admiration for his dedication and work ethic. He was also a proud United States Army veteran, having served during the Korean Conflict era, demonstrating his commitment to his country and community.
In addition to his professional life, Buster had a rich tapestry of interests and hobbies. He loved watching sports, particularly baseball, and was passionate about hunting and fishing. His love for sports extended to coaching Little League and Pony League Baseball, where he imparted his knowledge and enthusiasm to young athletes. Buster was also an avid farmer and enjoyed working with his cows, embodying the spirit of hard work and dedication.
Throughout his life, Buster remained committed to his faith and community. He was a valued member of St. Joseph Catholic Church, where he was actively involved. He was also a member of the Knights of Columbus Council and the American Legion, reflecting his deep sense of service and fraternity.
Buster is survived by his loving wife, Julia Zaruba Ripkowski; his devoted daughter, Tina Ripkowski; and his cherished grandchildren, Jason, James, Makenzie, Lauren, and Elizabeth. He also delighted in the company of his great-grandchildren, Mason, Paityn, Kaden, Blayne, Ash, and Kyli, who brought immense joy to his life. Buster is further survived by his brother, Mike Ripkowski, and his sister, Anna Lee Campbell, along with numerous nieces, nephews, family, and friends who will remember him fondly.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Stash S. Ripkowski and Mattie Olbrich Ripkowski; his son, James Ripkowski; and several siblings, including Bernie Ripkowski, Felix Ripkowski, Alex Ripkowski, August Ripkowski, Leon Ripkowski, Raymond Ripkowski, Herman Ripkowski, Catherine Ripkowski, Virginia Carter, Frank Ripkowski, Pearline Tilton, Stanley Ripkowski, and Bill Ripkowski.
Visitation will be held on January 15, 2025, from 6:00 PM to 8:00 PM at Pace-Stancil Funeral Home in Dayton, where a Rosary will take place at 7:00 PM. A Mass of Christian Burial to honor Buster's life will follow on January 16, 2025, at 10:00 AM at St. Joseph's The Worker Catholic Church in Dayton. Burial will follow at Palms Memorial Park in Dayton, all officiated By Father Peter Nguyen.
John "Buster" Ripkowski will be remembered for his unwavering dedication to family, community, and faith. He leaves behind a legacy of love, strength, and a commitment to service that will continue to inspire all who knew him.
