John Henry Austin, Jr.

John Henry Austin, Jr. was born to Sarah M. Fowler and John H. Austin, Sr. on December 5, 1925 in Daisetta, Texas and passed away October 12, 2014 in Baytown, Texas at the age of 88. John was predeceased by Jeanette, his wife of 42 years; his mother Sarah M. DeFoor; his three brothers, Douglas, Welfrea, and Conard Elliott; and granddaughter, Jennifer Cunningham Crochet.He is survived by his five children: daughters, Gwen Morgan and husband Wayne of Houma, Louisiana; Billie Ruth Cunningham and husband Vernon of Houma, Louisiana; sons, Johnny Johnson and wife Peggy of Montgomery, Texas, Jimmy Johnson and wife Maria of Montgomery, Texas; and Mike Johnson and wife Peggy of Darien, Georgia; his brother, Ken DeFoor and wife Jo Ellen of Kenefick, Texas; 12 grandchildren, 14 great-grandchildren, and 4 great great-grandchildren, along with numerous nieces and nephews.John graduated from Galena Park High School in 1944 prior to enlisting in the Navy. After proudly serving his country in World War II, he worked in the oil field industry and finished his working career at Champion Paper Company before retiring to Kenefick, Texas. He was a devout Christian, who once served as Senior Minister of the First Baptist Church of Dayton. Services are under the direction of Pace-Stancil Funeral Home of Dayton. John will be buried in Magnolia Park Cemetery in Dayton beside his beloved wife Jeanette. The funeral will be held at the First Baptist Church in Dayton at 2:00 p.m. on Wednesday, October 15, 2014.
