Obituary for John Presley Hampton

It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of John Presley Hampton, who passed away on February 18, 2025, in Pasadena, Texas. John was born on September 10, 1956, in Fort Worth, Texas, to parents Ted Henry Hampton and Pearl Charlene Puddy. He had made his home in Dayton, Texas, since 1982.

A proud graduate of Azle High School, class of 1975, John went on to work as an electrician and construction worker, with an adventurous career that took him to many far-flung places, including China, Russia, and Kwajalein Atoll Islands. His work and travels were a testament to his dedication and his love for exploring the world.

John was known for his love of the outdoors, enjoying fishing and indulging his passion for collecting guns and knives, and he had a deep love for old cars. He was a proud member of the Dayton Cruisers and a dedicated collector, always seeking the next treasure for his collection.

A true free spirit, John was also known for his long hair, a symbol of his independent nature. His friends and family will remember him for his joyful spirit, his adventurous heart, and his dedication to his passions.

John is preceded in death by his parents, Ted Henry Hampton and Pearl Charlene Puddy, and his sister Judy Phillips. He is survived by his brother Rodger Hampton and wife Pat of Canton, Texas; brother-in-law John Phillips; nieces Jana Kelm and husband Curtis, Dawn Hampton; great-nephews John Paul Phillips and wife Amber, Jared Carroll and wife Maria; great-nieces Jena Kelm and Taylor Kelm-Nicolaidis and husband Pete.

He is also survived by his friend Debra Hearn and his beloved dog, Ammo, who brought him much companionship.

John will be laid to rest at Azleland Cemetery in Azle, Texas on Saturday, February 22, 2025. 

John will be missed by all who knew him, and his memory will live on in the hearts of his family, friends, and the many lives he touched throughout his journey.
