CLEVELAND, TX – JOHN ALLEN HAMMITT, 32, native of South Houston, TX passed away in the early morning hours of Saturday June 24th 2017 as a result of injuries sustained in a head on collision involving a distracted driver occurring on CR 105, Cleveland, TX. John was born January 22, 1985 in Houston, TX to Sandra Lynn Lee. He attended and graduated from South Houston High School, where he developed an interest in Welding. Later in life he worked for several years in the Oil and Gas industry – where he spent time working onsite in Louisiana – and then moving to Tennessee. After relocating back to Texas John earned his Commercial Driver’s License, an achievement he was quite proud of, and the occupation that he held up until his untimely death. But all who knew John were aware that his greatest passions in life, aside from his family and his church, were his wife Ariel and fishing.
At 6’5”, John often inspired comparisons to the song “Big John” and even earned that very nickname from a few close friends. Known for his loyalty to both family and friends, it was often said that John never refused a call for help, no matter how tired or how long his shift had been. John was also known for his humor and booming laugh and for being an avid animal lover. But the biggest thing about John was truly his heart.
John is survived by his wife Ariel Hammitt, sister Jessica L McGehee, brother Dustin J Sinclair, sister Susan E Hallman, brother James M Hallmon and wife Shawn, sister Terrie S Williams and husband Eric. Nieces/Nephews are Brittany Wisenbaker and husband Blake, Mitch Hallman, Kendra Hallman, Wayne Haass, and Robert Haass, with one great Nephew Bane Wisenbaker, Uncle Bobby Hammitt and family and Grandfather James F Hallman. Extended family includes Robert Hallman and family, Margaret Chandler and family, Amanda Chafin and family, Tiffany Smith and family, Jerry Hallman, Roger Hayes and family, Rodney Hayes and family, Lisa McMahon and family, Sue Ferguson and family, Bill Hammitt and family, Great Aunt Naomi Reyes, Kenneth Gentry and family, Steven Gentry and family as well as many others and friends too numerous to list. For John, friends were family.
John was preceded in death by his parents Terry and Billie Mae Hammitt, mother Sandra Lynn Lee, sister Cathy Mae Hallman, Grandmother Lou Hammitt, and Grandfather William Hammitt.
Services will be held at Community Baptist Church of Crosby, 20615 FM 2100, Crosby, TX 77532 at 2:30 PM on Sunday, July 2nd, 2017.
