John “Lynn†Adams, 85, of Dayton, died Sunday, February 22, 2015, at his residence. Mass of Christian burial will be held at 11:00 a.m., Thursday, February 26, 2015, at the St. Joseph Catholic Church in Dayton with burial following at the St. Anne’s Protestant Cemetery in Eastgate. Visitation will be held from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m., with rosary services at 7 p.m., Wednesday, at the funeral home. Services are under the direction of Pace-Stancil Funeral Home in Dayton. Lynn was born April 13, 1929 in Sulphur, Louisiana, to parents; Claude B. and Marie O. Sonnier Adams, a former resident of Crosby, and has resided in Dayton for the past 60 years. He was a graduate of the Crosby High School class of 1948, excelled in sports being named most valuable player of the Crosby Buffalos in 1948 and golden glove boxing champion. Lynn was a veteran of the US Navy with service during the Korean War. While in the Navy he became a boxing and Judo champion aboard his ship and gained the title of Mr. U.S.S. Jason. Lynn was a retired millwright and member of the American Legion Post #512. He enjoyed hunting, restoring older or antique tractors, playing cards and dominoes with his extended family. He also liked barbecuing for friends and family, gardening, and tending his yard. Mr. Adams was preceded in death by his parents, sisters: Gertrude Granger, Lois Searle, Emma Courvell, and Shirley Komer, and brother: Wallace Adams. He is survived by his loving wife of 61 years: Louise Datel Adams of Dayton, daughters: Sharon Davis and husband Larry of Orange, Karen Williamson and husband Bruce of Big Sandy, and Laura Adams and husband Jeff Dorendorf of California, sons: Joseph Adams of Dayton, John L. Adams, Jr. of Bandera, and Mark Adams of Baytown, sisters: Lou Moore of Katy and Peggy Pate and husband Winford of Crosby, brother: Claude “Buzzy†Adams and wife Linda of Crosby, grandchildren: Amber Boyce, Paul Jolly, Mandy Wood, Jeremy Adams, Josh Adams, Stacey Cole, Jake Williamson, David Lee, Nathan Adams, Aaron Adams, Abby Adams, Kayla Traylor, Weston Davis, and Brandon Davis, thirteen great-grandchildren, as well as numerous nieces, nephews, other relatives, and friends. For those who desire, donations may be made the American Heart Association or the St. Joseph Catholic Church of Dayton, in Lynn’s name.
