Joann was born October 8, 1946 in Lincoln, Nebraska to parents Lawrence Deshayes and Betty Ross Deshayes. She had lived in the Dayton area for the past 20 years and was previously of Woodville.

She was preceded in death by her father and is survived by her mother, Betty Ross Kinser of Dickinson; her daughter, Becky Slaughter and husband Michael of Dayton; her son, Jerry Boatman of Woodville; granddaughter, Lawren Slaughter of Dayton; sisters, Debbie Phiilips, Peggy Davis, and Evelyn Boatman; also numerous nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
