Jessie Robert Gaskins, Sr., 81, of Dayton, died Monday, August 18, 2014, in Baytown. Funeral services will be held at 3:00 p.m., Friday, August 22, 2014, at the Pace-Stancil Funeral Home Chapel with burial following at Magnolia Park Cemetery in Dayton. Visitation will be held from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m., Friday, at the funeral home. Services are under the direction of Pace-Stancil Funeral Home in Dayton. Jessie was born August 8, 1933 in Smackover, Arkansas, to parents; Robert E. Gaskins and Donnie I. Golden, a former resident of Channelview, and has resided in Dayton for the past 37 years. He was a veteran of the US Army with service during Korea and a retired pipefitter from Brown and Root. He also enjoyed fishing, wood working, gardening, and will be remembered as a jack of all trades. Mr. Gaskins was preceded in death by his wife: Dorothy E. Curry Gaskins, daughter: Ginger G. Gaskins Ramsey, son: J. Robert Gaskins, Jr., father: Robert E. Gaskins, mother: Donnie I. Golden Verden, stepfather: Ollie Verden, and sister: Virginia McCoy. He is survived by his daughters: Janet Gaskins Beacham and husband Randy of Baytown and Sissy Gaskins Stanley of Highlands, brother: Gene Gaskins and wife Rosemary of Channelview and Lee Verden of Plantersville, seven grandchildren, nine great-grandchildren, and numerous nieces, nephews, other relatives, and friends.
