Jerry Lynn Haney

December 10, 1944 — January 14, 2013

JERRY LYNN HANEY was born on December 10, 1944 in Sulphur Springs, Texas, the younger son of Earl Ellis Haney and Maggie Lou Hooks Haney. He accepted Jesus Christ as his personal Lord and Savior when he was seven years old, and graduated from Sulphur Springs High School in 1963 where he was All State and All American and selected for membership in the Wildcat Hall of Fame and the Century team. He went on to play football for the Baylor Bears and graduated from Baylor University with a Bachelor of Arts degree in Political Science in 1967. He later received a Master of Science from A&M Commerce. He was a football coach for 35 years and taught Government at Paris Junior College for 7 years. He served as a Baptist deacon and also served as Athletic Director in Huffman ISD and Coldspring ISD. He touched many young lives serving as coach, educator, mentor, and father, and has left a legacy of Christian love and service to all. He was preceded in death by his parents. He is survived by his wife, Elaine Morgan Haney, of Coldspring, Texas; two daughters, Kristen Haney Jernigan and her husband Jerry of Keller, Texas, and Tiffany Haney Barton and her husband Ryan, of Katy, Texas; four grandchildren, Timothy Jernigan, Erin Jernigan, Rebecca Barton and Nathan Barton; brother, Jim Haney and his wife Linda, of Sulphur Springs, Texas, and sister, Beverly Price of Athens, Texas; and many nieces, nephews, and friends. Visitation will be held Wednesday, January 16, 2013, 5:00-7:00 p.m. at Pace-Stancil Funeral Home, Coldspring, Texas. Visitation will be held Thursday, January 17, 2013, 5:00-7:00 p.m. at Murray Orwosky Funeral Home, 419 Gilmer St., Sulphur Springs, Texas 75482. Funeral services for Mr. Haney will be held Friday, January 18, 2013, 10:00 a.m. at the First Baptist Church Sulphur Springs, 116 Oak Avenue, Sulpher Springs, Texas 75482. In Lieu of flowers, please give donations to Jerry L. Haney Fund, Gospel for Asia, 1800 Golden Trail Ct., Carollton, TX 75010. Telephone: 800-946-2742.
