James Howard Worthy, age 73 of Conroe, Texas, passed away Monday, May 9, 2016. He was born in Hawkins, on August 1, 1942. He along with his sister and three brothers grew up in Rosenberg where he graduated from Rosenberg High School. He was drafted into the army and served two years from 1964-1966.
On April 22, 1998 James and his wife Michal were married in this church. They had 18 years of wonderful memories together. James was so nervous at the ceremony that he took the ring and tried to put it on Michal’s right hand.
James was a Christian and witnessed for his Lord for many years at Mims Baptist Church in Conroe. His favorite Bible verse was Romans 9:28 – And we know that all things work together for good to them that love God, to them who are called according to his purpose.
His favorite songs were – I Can Only Imagine, Because He Lives, and It is Well with my Soul. He loved music and his favorite times was when his grandson, Cannon would play his guitar for PaPa. James always had a big smile on his face when he listened to Cannon play songs on his guitar.
He also loved going to Colorado with his family, walking the beautiful trails and seeing the spectacular waterfalls.
His favorite hobbies included growing plants and flowers. He would plant some tomato plants and in a month, they would be 5 feet tall. Everyone was amazed at how easily he could grow vegetables. Also his favorite flower to grow was Amaryllis. The many colors that bloomed every spring were very pretty. He had an Amaryllis garden with many beautiful flowers.
His other hobby was building things in the workshops in his back yard. He was an excellent carpenter and even built a complete bathroom cabinet for his wife, Michal. He could take a piece of lumber and make something beautiful from it very easily.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Clinton and Inez Welter Thorson; son, Chris Worthy; and brother, Bobby Worthy and wife Margaret.
Survivors include his wife, Michal Worthy; son, Aaron Worthy and wife Chris; step-son, Stephen Brand and wife Gayle; sister, Betty Walger; brothers, Kenneth Worthy and wife Diane and Raymond Thorson and wife Donna; grandchildren, Cannon Brand and Felis Worthy; many nieces, nephews, great nieces and great nephews.
Services will be held at 2:00 p.m., Sunday, May 15, 2016 at First Baptist Church, Coldspring, Texas. Interment will follow at Oakwood Cemetery, Coldspring, Texas.
