James William Vickers Jr.

James William Vickers Jr., age 88, passed away Sunday, April 21, 2013. He was born in 1924 in Houston, Texas to parents James William Vickers Sr. and Fannie Vickers who preceded him in death along with his loving wife of 56 years Eunice Pearl Vickers. Mr. Vickers has been a resident of Cleveland, Texas since 1968. He was a distinguished Veteran of the United States Army during WWII from 1943-1946. He retired from Red Ball Motor Freight Co. then went to work at Walmart Garden Center and retired again at age 85. He had a passion for gardening and teaching others how to garden and how to can the vegetables from the garden. He loved farming, tending cows and horses and woodworking. He was a devoted husband, loving father, grandfather and steadfast friend; he will be missed by all who knew and loved him. Survivors include his son James Vickers III and wife Toni; daughters Cynthia Crane and husband Taz, Brenda Hebert and husband Bob; brothers Franklin Vickers and Calvin Vickers; sisters Ruth Wileman, Betty Lou Baecker, Lillie Elmore, and Omalee Goodwinn; grandchildren Jennifer Vickers, Chad Crane, Tori Boats, and Tye Crane; great-grandchildren Christian and Dillon Vickers, Olivia Hall, Brayden and Ava Crane, Britnee Burke, Isabella, Scarlet and Gunnar Boats, Tyler and Justin Crane, Cody, Jesse and Chris Crane; great-great-grandchildren Callie Lockheart Vickers; numerous nieces, nephews and other cherished family members and faithful friends. Graveside services will be held Thursday, April 25, 2013, 11:00 a.m. at Morgan Cemetery, Cleveland, Texas.
