James Patrick Phillips

James Patrick Phillips, 83, of Mont Belvieu, Texas, passed away peacefully on April 9, 2025. Born on November 11, 1941, in Hull, Texas, James was the beloved son of John Miles Phillips and Nannie Lee Brown.

James was a proud graduate of Hull-Daisetta High School and went on to attend Lee College. His passion for caring for others led him to further study nursing in Kentucky. He faithfully served his country in the United States Army as a First Lieutenant during the Vietnam War from 1965 to 1967. He was honored with the Vietnam Service Medal, National Defense Service Medal, and the Vietnam Campaign Medal with 60 Device.

Faith played an important role in James's life. He attended the Lutheran Church in Baytown, where he generously gave his time helping with the church’s food pantry. His giving spirit and sense of community will be deeply missed.

James had a green thumb and a love for gardening — whether it was vegetables or flowers, he enjoyed watching things grow. He was always up for a casino trip, loved traveling, and had a special fondness for playing cards. A fiercely competitive spirit, James didn’t just play to play — he played to win.

James was preceded in death by his parents and his siblings: Geneva Clow, Walter O. Phillips Sr., Jack Phillips, Louise Green, and Alice Charles. He leaves behind a host of nieces, nephews, extended family, and dear friends who will miss his humor, generosity, and adventurous spirit.

A life well-lived and a man well-loved, James Patrick Phillips will be remembered for his devotion to family, his service to his country, and the joy he brought to those around him.
