James Edward Goodwine, born January 17, 1945 in Harvey, IL, after overcoming bladder cancer in 2020, passed away in Humble, TX on May 2, 2024 at 11:41 pm at the age of 79 after a short battle with stage 4 lung cancer. James was a resident of Dayton, TX since 1988.
He served in the United States Army overseas. He then had a career with the Texas Department of Transportation where he retired as a crew chief.
James was a handyman who loved working in his yard, welding, and completing various building projects, and he enjoyed passing skills like these and others on to his children to teach them to be self-sufficient.
He also enjoyed riding his motorcycles, playing pool, and dancing. He was someone with a great sense of humor who loved being the life of the party and making people laugh and have a good time. Later in life, he also enjoyed taking care of and spending time with his 3 dogs Lil Bit, Cheyenne, and Bullett and feeding his turtles in the pond.
James was preceded in death by his parents James Eugene Goodwine and Virginia Tyson Goodwine, brother Gregory Goodwine, former wife Cheryl Sinisi, wife of 19 years Michelle Kitchen Goodwine, former wife Sherry Goodwine, grandson Ian Goodwine, and granddaughter Ashe McCandless.
He is survived by sister Susan Juarez-DelGado, sister Sharon Cockrell and husband Ron, son James W. Goodwine, grandson Jameson Goodwine, daughter Toniya Goodwine and husband Robert Balfour, granddaughter Shaela Chapman and husband Jack and their children Hayden and Sophie, granddaughter Abby Bettis and husband Justin and their children Easton and Samuel, grandson Seth Blakenship, daughter Elizabeth McCandless and husband Brad, grandsons Camden Arclies and Bronson Arredondo, granddaughter Lorey Arclies, son Adam Goodwine and wife Eliska Garner, and grandsons Gabriel and Dilynn Goodwine and numerous nieces, nephews and other loved ones.
Flowers are welcomed and appreciated; however, if you would like to pay tribute to James’s memory in a different way, we encourage donations to the cancer charity of your choice.
A visitation for James will be held Sunday, May 5, 2024 from 5:00-7:00 p.m. at Pace Stancil Funeral Home in Dayton, Texas. A graveside service will follow on Monday, May 6, 2024 at 11:00 a.m. at Magnolia Park Cemetery in Dayton.
