James Foster Mclendon

James “Jim” McLendon, 87, of Coldspring, TX, passed away Wednesday, November 30, 2016. He was born August 24, 1929 in College Park, Georgia to Frank and Ruby McLendon, who preceded him in death, along with his sister, Louise Slaton, and his brother, Bob McLendon.

Jim graduated from College Park High School in 1946. He played football for one year at Georgia Military Academy, and he also attended the University of Georgia in Atlanta. He had a long and rewarding career in the chemical industry. He co-owned and operated his own chemical company, E-ZE Products, for fifteen years. After selling his business, he retired and moved to Cape Royale in Coldspring, Texas.

Jim married Lucy McNally in 1950, and they had two children together, Tom and Gina. He married Melanie J. Staggs in 1997, and they celebrated nineteen years together in August. Jim’s joys in life were spending time with his family and playing poker and golf with his friends. To know Jim was to love him, and his friends and family will remember him as a warm, witty, kind, and loving southern gentleman.

Jim also served as a member of the Atlanta Jaycees and the Coldspring UMC Tellers Committee. He was an officer in the Cape Royale Men’s Golf Association.

Survivors include his wife, Melanie McLendon; children, Tom McLendon, Gina Phillips and husband Allan, Julia Warren and husband Damon; grandchildren, Ben Phillips, Jonathan Phillips and wife Katherine, Susannah Sladek and husband Riley, Abby, Caleb, Amelia and Nathan Warren; great-grandchildren, Alexa, Grace and Madelyn Phillips, Reid and Grant Sladek; and numerous relatives and friends.

The memorial service will begin at 2:00 PM, Saturday, December 3, 2016 at Coldspring United Methodist Church. The family will receive friends before the service, from 1:00 PM - 2:00 PM, in the Fellowship Hall.
