James Edward Salter, Jr.

Dr. James Edward Salter, Jr., 58, of Houston passed away Thursday, September 27, 2018. Jim was born May 16, 1960 in Hattiesburg, Mississippi to parents, Joan and James Salter.

Jim grew up in Jackson, Mississippi where he attended Callaway High School. He furthered his education at University of Southern Mississippi and University of Mississippi Medical Center. Jim had been a resident physician at Vanderbilt and MD Anderson. He was a partner with Memorial Pathology Consultants, Memorial Hermann Memorial City Hospital.

He enjoyed reading, especially poetry, and had a passion for endless learning and knowledge. Jim truly loved nature through the outdoors and was an avid bird watcher. Jim and Steven shared their passion of traveling the world together. However, their weekends spent together at the farmhouse with family and friends were the times Jim enjoyed the most with their beloved dachshund, Rupert.

Jim is survived by his husband, Steven Holbrook of Stilson. They were life partners for 23 years and married in 2016. He is also survived by parents, Joan and James Salter of Madison, Mississippi; sister, Jan and Roger Gilbert of Madison, Mississippi; Steven’s family, Aggie Greak of Dayton, Linda and Buddy Holbrook of Dayton, Michelle and David Holbrook of Dayton, Jennifer and Kenneth Holbrook of Katy, Angie and Danny Baker of Katy; numerous nieces, nephews, and extended family.
