James Edgar Leggett

November 6, 1936 — August 1, 2020

James Edgar Leggett, Sr. age 83 of Baton Rouge, Louisiana passed away Sunday, August 1, 2020. He was born November 6, 1936 in Shreveport, Louisiana to parents Clint and Seleta Leggett who preceded him in death along with his wife, Marie Goodman Leggett; sister, Eddie Ruth Sisson; brother, AJ Leggett; and great-grandson, Hudson Andrew Leggett.

Survivors include sons, James Edgar Leggett, Jr and Jeffrey Mark Leggett and wife Jodi; grandchildren, Jeffrey Kyle and wife Taylor; and Keatyn Marie Baker and husband John; great-granddaughters Georgia Claire Baker and Heidi Jo Leggett, as well as numerous nieces and nephews.

James had a deep love for God, his family, and football. He gave his life to Christ as a teen and was a member of the Church of Christ. After graduating from Cotton Valley High School, James met and fell in love with Marie while working for her step-father. James and Marie soon married and were eventually blessed with James Jr., and Jeff. James was a hard worker, but any time he wasn’t working was spent with his family. His work in the construction industry led him to the Baytown, Texas area where he worked for Lubrizol until his retirement. Grandchildren Kyle and Keatyn were James’ pride and joy, and he spent hours playing with them and watching their sporting and cheering endeavors. One of the Leggett family’s greatest joys was attending LSU football games. His devotion to the “Fighting Tigers” is one of the many things he instilled in his children and grandchildren and will be continued with his greatgrandchildren. On his last day with his sons, James spoke of his love for his family and Tiger Stadium.

James will be buried in a private ceremony at Memory Gardens in Baytown, Texas. Arrangements are under the direction of Pace-Stancil Funeral Home in Dayton, Texas
