James Basil Duncan, aged 55, passed away on March 3, 2024, leaving behind a legacy of warmth, passion, and love. Born on July 21, 1968, in Pasadena, Texas, James was the beloved son of Tommy H. Duncan Sr. and Mary Belle Barber Duncan. His journey began in Houston, where he spent his formative years before relocating to Dayton, Texas, in the past year.
James was a proud graduate of the Milby High School class of 1986, a milestone that marked the beginning of a life filled with diverse interests and pursuits. A devout member of the Catholic faith, James found solace and community at St. Augustine in Houston during his time in the city.
A fervent supporter of Houston sports teams, James's heart belonged to the Houston Astros, whose triumphs and defeats he followed with unwavering dedication. Beyond sports, he found joy in the simple pleasures of hunting and the companionship of his loyal canine companion, Maddie.
Professionally, James excelled as a service manager for diesel engines, a role he embraced since his graduation from high school. However, his true passion lay in the world of theater and drama, a love affair that began in his youth and continued throughout his life. Known for his insightful critiques, James shared his enthusiasm for the arts with his family, enriching their lives with his deep appreciation for the stage.
Among James's many interests was his admiration for the iconic Marilyn Monroe, whose timeless work captivated his imagination. He found solace and inspiration in music, particularly in the melodies of country songs that resonated with his soul.
Above all, James cherished time spent with his family, relishing moments shared with his nieces and nephews. His warmth, humor, and generosity endeared him to all who knew him.
James was preceded in death by his parents, Tommy H. Duncan Sr. and Mary Belle Barber Duncan, and his brother, Oscar Ortiz. He is survived by his brothers, Anthony Ortiz, John "Sam" Duncan, and Tommy Duncan, and his wife, Regina, as well as his sister, Lisa Blankenship, and her husband, Gary, along with numerous nieces and nephews.
A memorial service to celebrate James's life will be held on Saturday, April 6, 2024, at Pace Stancil Funeral Home in Dayton, Texas, at 2:00 p.m. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the Houston Astros Foundation, The American Lung Association, or the American Cancer Society, honoring James's passions and values.
James Basil Duncan will be remembered fondly for his vibrant spirit, his unwavering love for his family, and his zest for life. May his memory continue to inspire and uplift all those who were fortunate enough to have known him.
