Obituary for James "Mike" Bush

James "Mike" Bush, 77, of Dayton, Texas, passed away on October 12, 2024. Born on March 23, 1947, in Nacogdoches, Texas, to Woodrow and Louise Bush, Mike was a dedicated family man and an esteemed veteran.

After graduating from Carthage High School, Mike proudly served in the United States Air Force during the Vietnam War. Following his military service, he built a successful career as a Vice President at Shell Oil, where he was known for his leadership and commitment.

Mike resided in the same home in Dayton for over 50 years, establishing deep roots in the community. An avid hunter and lover of Westerns, he often found joy in his pastimes, especially his affinity for Elvis and the thrill of the l'Auberge Casino.

A devoted family member, Mike cherished his role as a great-grandpa, and he took great pride in spending time with his grandchildren and great-grandson. He is preceded in death by his parents and his beloved wife of 39 years, Martha Bush, the mother of his children.

Mike is survived by his fiancée, Glenda Crenshaw; his daughter, LeighAnn Slankard and her husband Kevin; his brother, David Bush; grandchildren Kaleigh Williamson and Michael Slankard; his great-grandson, Parker Walter; niece, Susan Winters; and great-nephew, RJ Winters. 

Visitation will be held on Saturday, October 19, 2024, at Pace Stancil Funeral Home in Dayton from 11:00 AM to 12:00 PM, with a service following at 12:00 PM. Pallbearers honoring Mike will be Michael Slankard, Chase Crenshaw, Mel Schobel, Clifford Meeks, John Turner, and Stacey Knight. Burial will follow at Linney Cemetery in Dayton.

Mike's warmth, humor, and love for his family will be deeply missed by all who knew him.
