Ira Ford Flurry, Jr., 79, of Dayton, passed away Saturday, July 25, 2015, at The Methodist Hospital in Houston. Funeral services will be held at 10:00 a.m. Tuesday, July 28, 2015, at the Pace-Stancil Funeral Home Chapel with burial following at Magnolia Park Cemetery in Dayton. Visitation will be held from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m., Monday at the funeral home. Services are under the direction of Pace-Stancil Funeral Home in Dayton. Ford was born February 29, 1936 in Dayton to parents Ira Ford Flurry, Sr. and Ethyl Christine Hamilton Flurry, and has been a lifelong resident of Dayton. He was a graduate of Dayton High School class of 1954. He received his Bachelor’s degree in Agricultural Economics from Texas A&M University, and was a farmer and rancher. His involvement with Texas A&M included serving in the Corps of Cadets and membership in the Association of Former Students, the Century Club, the Texas A&M Heritage Society, and The 12th Man Foundation. Mr. Flurry served on the board of directors of the Liberty County Farm Bureau, American Rice Growers, Dayton ISD Board of Trustees, Soil and Water Conservation, Liberty County Executive Board, Dayton State Bank, and was an honorary member of the Dayton FFA. He also enjoyed his grandchildren and great-grandchildren, raising cattle, hunting, fishing, gardening, reading, and Texas A&M sports. Mr. Flurry was preceded in death by his parents and brother, Donald E. Flurry. He is survived by his wife of 57 years, Barbara Reidland Flurry of Dayton, daughters: Debbie Arnold and partner Amy Downey of Dayton, Sharon Wilson and husband Jim of Sugar Land, and Peggy Smesny and husband Jim of Dayton. Grandchildren: Todd Arnold and wife Alaina, Andrew Arnold and wife Larissa, Mark Arnold and partner Brad Madrid, Sarah King and husband Raymond, Patrick Wilson and wife Stephanie, Ford Smesny, Kathleen Wilson, Frank Smesny, and Ellie Conn and husband Matt. Great-grandchildren: Emma Arnold, Ava Arnold, Eli Arnold, Caroline Conn, and Boyd Conn. Ford is also survived by brothers, James W. Flurry of Houma, Louisiana and Robert O. Flurry of Dallas Texas, and numerous nieces, nephews, other relatives, and friends.
