Howard L. Stone, 87, of Dayton, died Sunday, September 25, 2011, at the Triumph Hospital in Baytown.
Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m., Tuesday, September 27, 2011, at the First United Methodist Church with burial following at Magnolia Park Cemetery in Dayton. Visitation will be held from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m., Monday, at the funeral home. Services are under the direction of Pace-Stancil Funeral Home in Dayton.
Howard was born September 18, 1924 in Nacogdoches, to parents; Lonnie and Mary Pearl Stone, and has resided in the Dayton area for the past 62 years. He was a graduate of the Nacogdoches High School class of 1943, obtained his Masters Degree at Stephen F. Austin University, veteran of the US Navy with service during WW II, former sixth grade teacher for the Dayton I.S.D. and city council member, retired President of Dayton State Bank, member of the American Legion Post #512, Nolan D. Pickett VFW Post #5621, Dayton Masonic Lodge #824,the Elks Lodge, Magnolia Ridge Country Club, and the First United Methodist Church where he had served as the chairman for the sanctuary building committee. He also enjoyed playing golf, hunting, fishing, his cats, working in the yard, and supporting numerous community activities.
Mr. Stone was preceded in death by his parents, son: Stephen P. Stone, sister: Opal King, and brother-in-law: W. D. Thames, MD. He is survived by his wife of 62 years: Dollie D. Stone of Dayton, sister-in-law: Flora O’Quinn and husband Billy of Lufkin, sister-in-law: Sarah Thames, and numerous other relatives, and friends.
In lieu of usual floral remembrances, the family requests that donations be made to the First United Methodist Church at 106 S. Cleveland, Dayton, Texas 77535.
