Hester Fay Squier

January 26, 1931 — June 27, 2024

Hester Fay Squier was born January 26, 1931 in the East Texas town of Romayor. Her parents were Derve and Sudie Simmons. She grew up and attended school primarily in Cleveland, Texas. In the eighth grade Fay met her life-long friend Mildred Enloe. They were like sisters and would later marry brothers. On July 27, 1948 Fay married Floyd Squier and would remain in a joyful union for the next 68 years. During that time Floyd and Fay started a family with the birth of Evelyn (1951), Sue (1956) and Holly (1961).

Fay was a homemaker during her early days of marriage, raising their three daughters. Fay taught children's’ Sunday School and helped with VBS at their church in Highlands, Texas where they eventually moved to in 1962.

After their daughters were grown Fay nurtured a talent she had for writing. While in her 60’s she attended writing classes at Lee College in Baytown Texas. During this time she wrote poetry and some short stories. But Fay went beyond that. She had a story to tell and she began the writing of her first and only novel “Mill Crossing”. She worked on her labor of love for the next 30 years balancing her writing with her church and family life. Finally on January 26, 2024, her 93rd birthday her book was published. Her love and faith in God and love of her family was evident in her everyday presence. She was truly a kind person, always concerned about the feelings of others. In 2013 Fay and Floyd moved to Montgomery, Texas to live with her daughter and son-in-law. She joined FBC Conroe and found a group of widowed lady friends in the Esther Class where she could worship the Lord and enjoy many hours of fellowship.

Fay is survived by one brother Butch Simmons and his wife Kathleen, daughters Evelyn Lefler, Sue Cole and her husband Gene, and Holly Reilly and her husband Mike. Also six grandchildren. Deanna Prentiss, Adrienne Clendenin and her husband Matt, Danny Wilson Jr. and wife Stephanie, Clint Wilson and wife Michelle, Jana Cole and Stephen Cole; nine great-grandchildren and six great-great-grandchildren.
