Harvey Elbert Hood, a life-long resident of Splendora, Texas, passed away Wednesday, August 17, 2016, at the age of 77, surrounded by his loving family. Harvey was born November 26, 1938 in Splendora, Texas to parents Harvey Henry Hood and Minnie Idela Carlos Hood who preceded him in death as did his sister, Ollie Mae Hood; and nephew, Bobby Gene Hood.
In the summer of 1961, he married Sandra Prestridge. After a two-year stint in the United States Army, where he was trained as a military policeman with the Canine Corps, and he traveled the United States with the Army Pistol Team. In 1963, he and his wife returned to Splendora. In 1966, he was elected as the first City Marshall of Splendora and later served as the first Police Chief. Harvey was a member of Pipe Fitters Local Union 211 for 42 years and retired in 2004, but he had several careers. He worked at log hauling and driving interstate trucks.
Survivors include his wife, Sandra L. Hood; daughters, Tracy Holloway and husband Marty, Paige Smith and husband Bobby, Leigh Hood; sister, Carol Dulaney and husband Oliver; brothers, Elmer Hood and wife Sharon, Herbert Hood; grandchildren, Allyson Margison and husband James, Aaron Smith and wife Brittney, Ethan Smith and wife Selena, Zachary Alexander, Caleb Smith, Kendall Alexander and Alli Hood; great-grandchildren, Max, Caroline and Ryker; as well as many nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
Visitation will be held from 5:00 p.m. - 8:00 p.m., Friday, August 19, 2016 at Pace Stancil Funeral Home, Cleveland, Texas. Services will be held at 10:00 a.m., Saturday, August 20, 2016 at Pace Stancil Chapel, Cleveland, Texas.
