Harry G. “Skid” Skidmore, 84 of Dayton, went to be with his Lord and Savior on Saturday, May 28, 2011. Skid was born June 11, 1926 in Blossom, Texas to parents, Ruby Finch Skidmore and Harry Skidmore.
Services for Mr. Skidmore will be 2:00 p.m., Tuesday, May 31, 2011 at the First Baptist Church of Dayton with Rev. Dale Hill officiating. Visitation will be Tuesday morning 11:00 a.m. until service time at the church. Interment will follow at Palms Memorial Park Cemetery
He was preceded in death by his parents, three brothers, Joe, James, and Bill, his stepson, Ronnie Parker and various nieces and nephews, who loved him dearly. He is survived by his wife of 46 years, Winn Skidmore of Dayton, brother, Jerry Skidmore and wife Connie of Lake Jackson.
Skid was a graduate of Blossom High School and Paris Junior College, after his stint in World War II. Among many other places, he served two years in Sandai, Japan in the 188th Parachute Infantry, Regiment 11th Airborne Division. He was honorably discharged, November 16, 1946 – one year after the surrender of Japan in August, 1945.
Skid worked as Superintendent at Brown and Root, Liberty County Precinct IV and was a rancher for many years in Dayton, Texas. He was named Dayton Citizen of the Year by the Chamber of Commerce in 1993, lifetime member of Houston Livestock Show and Rodeo, President of American Cancer Society of Liberty County, member of Elks Lodge, supported Crippled Children in Ottine, Texas, member of Veterans Foreign Wars, American Legion, Dayton Young Farmers, Honorary member of Dayton FFA Chapter and many more too numerous to list.
