Gwyn Louise Goodwin, age 70, passed away on Monday, September 30, 2024, at her home in Cleveland, Texas. She was born August 17, 1954 in Kermit, Texas to Jesse James Jr. and Ruby Helen Goodwin. She was a 1972 graduate of Levelland High School. She earned her Associate Arts degree at South Plains College in 1974. It was during this time that she served the Texas State Capitol as the Sergeant at Arms and Staff Secretary for Senator Max Sherman. She then went on to receive her Bachelor of Science in Education from Texas Tech University in 1976. In 1985 she did graduate work at West Texas State University. She worked as a teacher most of her career, winning “Teacher of the Year” and "Who’s Who among America’s Teachers". Once retired from the education field, Gwyn worked as a Flight Attendant for Republic Airways, launched her own “Mrs. Mop” Cleaning Service, and volunteered helping animals and the homeless. Gwyn loved being around people and, like her father, she never met a stranger. She loved to laugh, read her Bible, and always looked for the deeper meaning behind everyday events in life. She was preceded in death by her parents and her oldest brother, Jesse James Goodwin III (aka “Jamz”). She is survived by her older brother, Greg, of Cleveland; nephew, Jesse and his wife Carla and their 2 children, Alex and Olivia; her son, Mark, and his wife, Tara; 3 grandsons, Brackett, Calvin, and Maxwell; and many friends. A memorial will be held in her honor at a later date. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the charity of choice.
