Gordon Lee Locke, age 71, of Conroe, passed away Saturday, November 17, 2012 in Conroe Regional Hospital. Gordon was born July 22, 1941 in Corpus Christi, Texas to Lee and Lois Locke, who preceded him in death. Gordon attended elementary school throughout South Texas, as his father was a tool pusher for Humble Oil & Refining Co. during those early years and the family moved quite frequently. After his father's retirement in 1955, the family moved to "the farm" on Tarkington Prairie, near Cleveland, Texas, at which time Gordon entered 9th grade and then graduated from Tarkington High School. He attended Sam Houston State University, where he was a member of the SHSU ROTC. Upon graduation, he entered the U.S.Army, MP division, as a 2nd Lieutenant. He proudly served his country from 1966-1969, serving in Viet Nam from 1966-1967, during which time he advanced to 1st Lt. and later to Captain. Captain Locke received numerous commendations during his service, including the Bronze Star. Following discharge from the Army, Gordon entered a career with State Farm Insurance, serving as an agent, a claims adjuster and a claims supervisor. He retired from State Farm in 1996. Gordon was a generous, kind and loving brother, uncle, cousin and friend to many. He will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved him. Survivors include his sister, Beth Locke Sewell and husband Sam; nephew, Tony Lee Sewell and wife, Jessica; niece, Cheri Sewell Walker and husband, Brad; great-nephews, Bradley Caddenhead and wife, Savanna, Blaize Caddenhead and Benjamin Sewell; great-nieces, Megan Price, Shaelynn Price, Rylie Caddenhead, Natalie Sewell and Hannah Sewell. Numerous cousins, other family members and many caring friends. Funeral Services were held Tuesday, November 20, 2012 at 2:00 p.m. at First Baptist Church, Coldspring, Texas, with Dr. Don Shannon officiating. Interment followed in Laurel Hill Cemetery, Coldspring, Texas. Pallbearers were Tony Lee Sewell, Bradley Caddenhead, Brad Walker, Artis Glen Scott, Charles McLin and Walter Stovall.
