Gloria Jean Shearer Thomas, 82, passed away Sunday, March 24, 2019 at home in Kingwood. She was born December 25, 1936 in Kayford, West Virginia to parents John Howard Shearer and Dolly Norene Camp Shearer.
Service for Mrs. Thomas will be 10:00 a.m., Thursday, March 28, 2019 at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints in Liberty, Texas. The family will receive friends 6:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m., Wednesday evening at Pace-Stancil Funeral Home in Dayton. Graveside service for Mrs. Thomas will be 2:00 p.m., Monday, April 1, 2019 at Houston National Cemetery in Houston.
Mrs. Thomas was a longtime resident of the Houston area and a former employee of Harris county. She was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints and attended services in the Jacinto City Ward and Pine Trails Ward, Liberty and Kingwood Wards. Mrs. Thomas served in a wide variety of church callings including primary teacher, young women president, Dallas Temple worker, and Relief Society president on 3 separate occasions for a total of 25 years. Gloria enjoyed singing, reading, family history and gardening. She had a great love for her family and friends and will be missed by all that knew and loved her.
Gloria was preceded in death by her parents, her husband Charles Edward Thomas, her sister Norma Reedy and her brother Sheridan “Sonny” Shearer. She is survived by daughters, Yolanda Velasco and husband Bill of Florida, Celeste Berry of Arizona, Kimberly Weaver and husband Donald of Kingwood; sons, Dr. Charles E. Thomas and wife Kimberly Ann of Dayton, Robert “Bobby" Thomas and wife Melissa of Utah and Richard Thomas and wife Andrea of Houston; brother, William "Bill" Riffle and wife Patricia of Dayton, Ohio; seventeen grandchildren; twenty-nine great-grandchildren; numerous beloved nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
