SQUIRES

Mrs. Gladys W. Squires, age 104, passed away Wednesday, March 28, 2012. Mrs. Squires was born September 14, 1907 in Cleveland “Tarkington Prairie”, Texas to parents Jesse T. Wright and Hallie Mathews Wright who preceded her in death along with her loving husband Howard Squires; parents Jesse T. and Hallie Wright; brother Raymond Wright; sisters Edith Mounts and Ethel Davidson; and her grandson Scott Squires. The family moved to Cleveland from Tarkington in 1910, attending the local school through high school; attending college three years; taught school in San Felipe and Cleveland and was a substitute teacher in Houston for ten years. She accepted Jesus Christ as her Savior at the age of 10 or 11 at First Baptist Church and was baptized in the San Jacinto River. She loved her family and church family; she had a sewing circle who had met for over 30 years. Sometimes she would create themes for gatherings making them tastier with her wonderful cooking. She was recognized for 50+ years of teaching Sunday school. The most important fact about Mrs. Squires was she walked the talk about her spirituality. Mrs. Squires quotes: “Please tell: Jesus is the only way to have Eternity in Heaven”.
She will be remembered lovingly by her son Thomas L. Squires and wife Virginia; daughter Mary E. Baldwin; grandchildren Michael Squires, Michele Squires and partner Mandy, Mac Fernandez and wife Erika, Denise Harris and husband Charles, Mike Fernandez and wife Allison; great-grandchildren Madeline, Macy, Michael, Dion, Damian, and Cooper and numerous nieces; nephews and faithful friends throughout the years.
Bro. Tim Holder will preside over funeral services being held Saturday, March 31, 2012, 1:00 p.m. at Pace-Stancil Funeral Home Chapel with interment following at Cleveland Memorial Cemetery.
Mrs. Gladys Squires request in lieu of flowers to please make contributions to First Baptist Church Music Fund, 400 W. Hanson, Cleveland, Texas 77327.
