Gertrude “Gertie” A. Metz Callaway, 89, of Baytown passed away Wednesday, May 19, 2010 in Houston. She was born February 3, 1921 in New Iberia, Louisiana to parents: Albert and Alphonsine Migues Metz. She was previously of Palestine where she had lived since 1974. Mrs. Callaway was a member of the First United Methodist Church in Elkhart and the Good Sams Camp Club. She enjoyed sewing, camping, traveling and gardening. Services for Mrs. Callaway will be 2:00 p.m., Saturday, May 22, 2010 at Pace-Stancil Funeral Home Chapel, Dayton with interment to follow at Palms Memorial Park Cemetery. Visitation will be 5:00 to 8:00 p.m., Friday at the funeral home. Pallbearers are Todd Cox, Toby Cox, Jeremy Walden, Steven Callaway, Brent Walden, Brandon Faust, Travis Faust, and Bryan Callaway. Honorary Pallbearers are Kimberly Cox and Angela Faust. Mrs. Callaway was preceded in death by her parents; her husband of 64 years: Omie K. Callaway; granddaughter: Angela Faust; brothers: Frederick Metz, Albert Meta, Jr., Louis P. Metz, and Richard Metz; and sisters: Claudia Girouard and Hazel Hudson. She is survived by her daughter: Pat Callaway Walden and husband Rocky of Dayton, Brenda Callaway Cox and husband Billy of Baytown, and Martha Callaway Faust & husband Dwayne of Austin; her son: Steve Callaway & wife Barbara of Baytown; one brother: Lawrence Metz of New Iberia, LA; 10 grandchildren and 7 great-grandchildren.
