George Wiessner, 89, of New Caney, passed away on March 25, 2025, at the HCA Hospital in Kingwood, Texas. George was born May 30, 1935 in Allendorf an der Lumda, Germany, to parents Ludwig Wiessner and Katharine Becker Wiessner. George was a locomotive mechanic in Germany until his and Renate’s immigration to the United States in 1957. He obtained work as an oil tool machinist and worked many years in that capacity. George also worked as an HVAC technician after the oil industry crisis in the 80’s. Initially George and Renate did not speak English and George attended college at night to learn English and obtain a college education. George and Renate moved their wood framed house to New Caney from Houston and built a farmstead there. George had a great love of the outdoors and he passed on that love to his children and grandchildren. Many memories were made camping, fishing and hunting. George was also an avid photographer, and the children and grandchildren fondly recall the slideshows he would share with his family. George was determined to remember his homeland and was a member of the Houston Saengerbund for many years. George also sang with the esteemed Sons of Orpheus male choir in Houston. George made his own German rye bread and sausage, and the kids recall a childhood filled with love and laughter and many evenings filled with homemade pizza baked in the outdoor bread oven. George loved to BBQ and many family gatherings were held around the swimming pool with his special BBQ brisket. A devoted Papa and Opa, George has left his legacy of greatness upon his children.
