George W. Dickens, 83, of Dayton passed away Tuesday, April 5, 2016 at home in Dayton.
Services for Mr. Dickens will be 2:00 p.m., Friday, April 8, 2016 at Pace-Stancil Funeral Home Chapel with interment to follow at Palms Memorial Park Cemetery. Visitation will be 5:00 to 8:00 p.m., Thursday evening at Pace-Stancil Funeral Home.
George was born April 28, 1932 in Collins Mississippi to parents Corley and Lessie Hatcherson Dickens. He was a former resident of New Orleans before moving to Dayton where he has lived for the past 30 years. A truck driver by trade, George loved his job, motorcycles, and the tending the family plant nursery. He was a member of the Masonic Lodge. George read his bible every day.
He was preceded in death by his parents, brothers, Corley Dickens, Jr., Norman Dickens, and Dick Gillis; sisters, Irene Britton, Jewel Dickens, Virgie Shoemake, and Louvinia Gillis. He is survived by his wife of 30 years, Wanda Joe Dickens of Dayton; daughter, Sharon Bedgood and husband Tim of Collins, Mississippi; grandchildren, Lindsay and Tiffany; great-grandchildren, Peyton, Presley, Kaden, and Karson; sisters, Iris Barrier and husband Darth of Collins, Mississippi, Ella Burnham and husband Stacy of Collins, Mississippi, Alene Welch of Laurel, Mississippi, and Willie Russell of Petal Mississippi; step-sons: Bill Dinsmore and wife Gay of Kenefick and Joe W. Dinsmore and wife Jan of Crosby; step-grandchildren, Leeann, Aaron, Lacy, Daniel, Brandon, Brandie, and Erica Jo; also numerous nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
