George Pawlowski, beloved husband and father, was born on November 29, 1937 in Lviv, Ukraine to parents, Franciszek (Frank) Pawlowski and Emilia Sarachman Pawlowski. He passed away on January 22, 2022 in Conroe, Texas at the age of 84. After surviving World War II in Ulm and Augsburg, Germany, George's hard work ethic and fluency in several languages proved valuable to the U.S. Army, in which he served proudly while still in Europe and earned the rank of sergeant. After his honorable discharge from the Army, George left post-war Germany and immigrated to the United States, beginning his new life in Houston, Texas. It was there where George met the love of his life, Irene Slavych, whom he married in 1966. Over his life, George had many careers, including as an air conditioner installer and later a valve repairman for Union Tank Car. George and Irene lived in Houston for many years before venturing to "the country" to live in Tarkington, Cleveland and, finally, for the past 18 years, Conroe, Texas, raising three children. Throughout this time, George was industrious and skilled, building his own home on multiple occasions with Irene's help, and a proud member of the American Legion. After retiring, George devoted himself to Irene, their home, their garden and his never-ending hope of winning the lottery through scratch-off lotto tickets.
He was preceded in death by his parents, his brother and his sister, and is survived by: his loving wife of 56 years, Irene Pawlowski; his children, Stefan Pawlowski, Stephen Pawlowski and Emilie Ann Pawlowski Barnes and her husband Brad Barnes; his grandchildren, Hayden Rae Pawlowski and McKenna Leigh Pawlowski Jenkins and her husband Victor; as well his great granddaughter, Kennleigh Ann Grace Jenkins.
The funeral service is scheduled for Thursday, January 27, 2022 in the Pace-Stancil Funeral Home Chapel in Cleveland, Texas at 2pm with Pastor Rob Jones officiating. A reception will follow at Theresa’s Place.
The interment will occur on Monday, January 31, 2022 at Houston's National Cemetery at 9:30am. Full military honors will be provided by the Houston Honor Guard.
In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation to Irene to defray the costs of George's medical and associated expenses.
