Florence Marie Cherry, born January 17, 1913 in Stilwell, Oklahoma (formerly known as “Indian Territory”), to James Elmer and Edmona Bruner Gardner and moved to Texas when she was 8 years old by covered wagon. She went to be with her Lord February 28, 2011. She is preceded in death by both parents along with her husband, Douglas Cherry; eleven siblings; and son-in-law, Larry Lynn Maier. Survivors include her son, Clifton Lee Cherry and wife, Kathy; daughters, Mary Lou Maier, Billie Jeanne Alexander and husband, Tommy; grandsons, James Douglas Cherry and wife, Wendy, Joshua Daniel Alexander and wife, Rocio, Seth Thomas Alexander; granddaughters, Erin Marie Thompson and husband, Keith, Devon Denise Gray and husband, Timmy; great-grandchildren, Jamie and Allie Cherry, Luke and Elijah Alexander, Sasha and Isaac Thompson, Boston, Gray; numerous other cherished family members and treasured friends. Visitation will be held Wednesday, March 2, 2011, 5:00-9:00 p.m. at Pace-Stancil Funeral Home, Cleveland, Texas. Jay Hill, Alvin Tomlinson and Earl Williams will preside over funeral services being held Thursday, March 3, 2011, 10:00 a.m. at Pace-Stancil Chapel, Cleveland, Texas, with burial following at Ryan Cemetery in Tarkington Prairie. Pallbearers include Seth Alexander, Keith Thompson, Joshua Alexander, Douglas Cherry, Timmy Gray, and Tad Frantzen. In lieu of flowers, the family request donations be made in memory of Florence M. Cherry to University Heights Baptist Church, 2400 Sycamore Avenue, Huntsville, TX 77340, 936-295-2996.
