Fannie Kate Cochran, age 83, passed away on Saturday, June 20, 2015, at her home in Coldspring, Texas. She was born to the late Charles S. Walters and Rosa Lee Ham Walters on Nov. 13, 1931. Fannie is survived by her husband, Joe Eagle Cochran, her daughter, JoAnn Scarborough (Buck), two grandsons, Luke Love (Amanda), and Marc Love (Candice); one great-granddaughter, Stella Love; three brothers Thomas E. Walters (Jeanne), Julian E. Walters (Sammie), Nolan E. Walters (Julyne); four sisters, Dorothy Green, Mae Miller, Margie Whitmire, Anna Thorpe (Ron) and many nieces and nephews. Fannie’s parents and one brother, J.C. Walters, preceded her in death. Extremely strong and self-reliant, Fannie was an inspiration to her family and friends. Not only was she a dedicated caregiver to her husband, but she was also an asset to her community. She was a valued member of the San Jacinto County Child Welfare Board devoting countless hours to fund-raising for abused and neglected children as well as helping maintain the Children’s Safe Harbor house. A long-time member of First Baptist Church in Coldspring, her dedication to the community also included many years of service on the Laurel Hill Cemetery Board. She was first and foremost dedicated to her family. A devoted wife, mother, and grandmother, she put her family’s needs above her own. Her greatest joy was her great granddaughter, Stella, and her grandsons, Luke and Marc. A Celebration of Life for Fannie will take place on Wednesday, June 24, at 10 a.m. at First Baptist Church in Coldspring with Dr. Don Shannon officiating. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to San Jacinto County Child Welfare Board, P.O. Box 343, Coldspring, Texas 77331.
