Ernest Alfred Cessna

August 26, 1930 — February 5, 2024

Ernest Alfred Cessna, 93, of Tarkington Prairie, left this earth for his heavenly home on Monday, February 5, 2024.  He was born August 26, 1930 in Mont. Belvieu, Texas to parents O.C. Cessna and Tommie Mable Martin Cessna who preceded him in death. Also preceding him in death are his wife, Bernice Cessna who passed away in 1988 after over 40 years of marriage; his second wife, Pearl Cessna who passed away in 2011, they were married for over 20 years; daughters, Joy Lynn Vick and Kathy Slone; brothers, Charles Cessna and Otis Cessna; and his sisters, Athalee Thompson, Doris Gray, and Johnnie Winder.

He is survived by his grandchildren Glenn Vick, Jr. and wife Angie, Amanda Alberson and husband Bruce, Rosie Wright; great-grandsons, Ethan Vick, Jace Alberson, Trevor Vick; great-granddaughters, Amy Smith and husband Will, Hailey Alberson, Claire Alberson, Abigail Alberson, Adilynn Wright, Alexa Wright; great-great-grandchildren, Zack Smith and Kayden Smith; brother, Jimmy Cessna and wife Glenda; sister, Elaine Coots and husband James; son-in-law, Glenn Vick, Sr.

Earnest wasn’t afraid of hard work. In his younger years he worked at a sawmill and then on a tugboat. He later worked as a machinist, welder, fabricator and retired from Cameron Iron Works in the late 1980’s. Even after retirement he was a bus driver for Tarkington ISD and propane delivery driver.  When he wasn’t working he enjoyed hunting and fishing.   He was a member of Splendora UPC and was a faithful man of God.  He loved the word of God and his grandchildren and great-grandchildren were the light of his life.  He will be missed greatly by everyone who knew and loved him.

There will be a visitation held on Friday, February 9, 2024 from 5pm-8pm at Pace-Stancil Funeral Home in Cleveland.  His funeral will be held the following day, Saturday, February 10 at 10am in the Pace-Stancil Chapel with Bro. Culbreth and Bro. Ronnie officiating.  Burial will follow at Ryan Cemetery in Tarkington. Serving as pallbearers will be, Glenn Vick, Jr., Bruce Alberson, Ethan Vick, Trevor Vick, Jace Alberson, Will Smith and honorary pallbearer, Bro. Paul Bolenbaucher.
