Emma Pouncy

June 19, 1934 — December 17, 2014

Emma "Jean" Mizell Pouncey, age 80 of Cleveland, Texas, passed away Thursday, December 18, 2014. She is preceded in death by her parents, Bill Mizell and Lavada "Marie" Law Mizell; husband, Bill Pouncey; son, Bill Pouncey Jr.; brothers, Curtis, Ronnie, and Glenn "BG" Mizell; sister, Billie Rutherford; and sister-in-law Pat Mizell and Helen Mizell.

Survivors include her daughters, Dianne and Michael Griffiths, Shirley Kolb, Judy and Paul Friend, and Mary and Chris Whisenant; brothers, Jimmie Mizell, W. "PeeWee" and Yvonne Mizell, Arthur Mizell and sister-in-law, Carolyn Mizell; grandchildren, Stephanie Waltman, Kelly and Crystal Kelly, Amanda and Weldon Wallace, Derrick Whisenant, Ashley, Rebecca Birdwell, Emily Whisenant, Mike Poyenter and Shay, Landon Friend and Chelbie Whiting.

Jean was the oldest child and was born June 19, 1934 in Magnolia Community and was welcomed to the world by her grandmother, Susie Mizell who was a local midwife. She spent her early childhood there. As the family grew, they moved to Fostoria where Jean attended and graduated from Splendora High School in 1952. Jean was a member of Fostoria Baptist Church. She later married and raised a family moving with them many times as her husband worked in the oilfield. Jean and Bill returned to Magnolia Community and she spent the next 48 years there until going to Timberwood Nursing and Rehab last year. She served on the board of the Magnolia Community Cemetary Association for 34 years.

Jean loved gardening, raising chickens and milk cows. She liked to read and enjoyed embroidery and collecting cookbooks. She was a fabulous cook with a talent for fried chicken, biscuits and coconut pie. Jean was a devoted grandmother and aunt.

Services will be 3:00 p.m., Sunday, December 21, 2014 at Magnolia Baptist Church. Visitation will be held 5:00 p.m. - 9:00 p.m., Saturday, December 20, 2014 at Pace Stancil Funeral Home, Cleveland, Texas.
