Obituary for Elna Ruth Brown

Elna Ruth Brown, 84, of Houston, Texas, passed away on September 20, 2024. Born on April 15, 1940, in Hempstead, Texas, Elna was the beloved daughter of Virgil Whigham and Eunice Johnson Whigham.

Elna dedicated her life to her family, raising her children in Dayton, Texas, before moving to Tennessee, where she pursued her calling in ministry. For over a decade, she served her community with love and compassion, providing care for children in need alongside her husband. Her nurturing spirit extended beyond her ministry; she cherished family gatherings, filling her home with warmth and laughter, surrounded by photographs of her loved ones.

A talented baker, Elna had a passion for creating beautiful wedding cakes adorned with real roses. Her kind heart and vibrant personality meant she never met a stranger, and her home was always open to family and friends. She relished travel, particularly her cherished trips to New Mexico, and had a special place in her heart for her beloved pets.

Elna is preceded in death by her parents, sisters La'Nell Payne, Marie Izard, Gene McCafferty, Joyce Moory, and her children, Danny DuBose and Janice DuBose Davis. She is survived by her son, Glen DuBose and girlfriend Shelley; grandchildren, Marissa DuBose, Travis and Dee Neuman, Darrell and Rae Ann Ubnoskye, and Rachel Pollock and husband Brad.

A visitation will be held on Sunday, September 29, 2024, from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. at Pace Stancil Funeral Home in Dayton, Texas. A service in celebration of Elna’s life will take place on Monday, September 30, 2024, at 2:00 p.m. at Pace Stancil Funeral Home, followed by burial at Magnolia Park Cemetery in Dayton.

Elna’s legacy of love and service will continue to inspire all who knew her. She will be deeply missed.
