Ellen Ruth McWhirter Smith, 79, of Dayton, died Tuesday, May 26, 2015, at her residence surrounded by her family. Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m., Friday, May 29, 2015, at the Pace-Stancil Funeral Home Chapel with burial following at Magnolia Park Cemetery in Dayton. Visitation will be held from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m., Thursday, at the funeral home. Services are under the direction of Pace-Stancil Funeral Home in Dayton. Ellen was born December 8, 1935 in Houston, to parents; L.F. and Clara Nell Herring McWhirter, and has been a lifelong resident of Dayton. She was a graduate of the Dayton High School class of 1954, a retired funeral assistant from Sterling Funeral Home with 19 years of service, and former volunteer at the Heritage Villa Nursing Home. Mrs. Smith was preceded in death by her parents, father of her children: Harold E. Mifflin, and brothers: Herbert and Charlie McWhirter. She is survived by her husband of 30 years: Jimmy L. Smith of Dayton, sons: Milton Mifflin and wife Patricia of Dayton, Tommy Mifflin and wife Julie of Dayton, and Kenny Mifflin and wife Elsa of Dayton, sister: Nancy Smesny and husband Emil of san Antonio, uncle: George Herring of Dayton, grandchildren: Jennifer Junaitis and husband Dallas, Amanda Reed and husband Kade, Miles Mifflin, and Kyla Mifflin, great-grandchildren: Hannah Junaitis and Zachary Junaitis, and numerous nieces, nephews, other relatives, and friends.
